Abstract

Systems engineering (SE) approach is undergoing constant change and is already being used in many companies as part of product development. This approach, which offers many advantages in collaboration, efficiency and product quality, as well as cost, can meet the challenges of Industry 4.0. Various tools are needed to implement SE. These include a PLM system for collaboration during development, as well as various simulation environments that are brought together to form a co-simulation. One way to enable communication for this is to use the OPC UA communication standard. The application of the SE approach will be illustrated using two application examples, namely a holistic simulation of a production plant with energy management and a teaching course.
