Abstract

This article shows approaches to simulation-based improvements in energy and resource efficiency of automotive production processes. The concept of simulation oriented energy management enhances the quality of planning energy-efficient production systems. Moreover, it is an aim to reduce energy costs by improving the manufacturing management and control. The simulation software Plant Simulation (Siemens PLM) is used for the analysis of the potential energy savings. In the future, a connection with the real production control will become possible. Such self-optimizing production systems build the core of the much-discussed term ‘Industry 4.0’.
